Slough Town’s girls team enjoyed a fantastic day of success at the National League Trust U11s Cup London Regional Finals, held recently at Hemel Hempstead Town.
Represented by Priory School, the young Rebels produced a superb display of skill, teamwork and determination to lift the regional trophy and secure their place in the next stage of the competition.
The National League Trust U11s Cup – organised by the National League Trust – gives National League clubs the chance to work with local primary schools, with the exciting prize of a potential match at Wembley Stadium on offer later in the competition. Separate tournaments are held for mixed teams and girls teams, with regional winners progressing towards the national finals which take place ahead of the National League Promotion Final on Sunday 10 May.
Priory School’s girls were outstanding throughout the day, navigating four highly competitive group matches to finish top of their group. Goals from Laila, Evelyn and Taylor helped power the team into the semi-finals.
The semi-final proved to be a tense encounter that ultimately went to penalties. Showing great composure under pressure, the team held their nerve – with Zara producing a series of excellent saves in goal to help send the Rebels through to the final.
The final against Woking proved just as dramatic. In another fiercely contested match the teams could not be separated, sending the tie to a second penalty shootout.
In a thrilling finish, Priory emerged victorious 9-8 on penalties, with all six girls stepping up to score during the shootout – a remarkable demonstration of confidence and teamwork.
The victory means Slough Town’s representatives now progress to the Southern semi-final stage of the competition, moving one step closer to the dream of playing under the arch at Wembley.
