Aylesbury FC 0-0 Slough Town
On Saturday 18 April, the Slough Town Community team travelled to face Aylesbury in a 9-a-side fixture at their home ground. Both sides compete in the Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Inclusive League (BOBi). Slough currently run two teams in the league — one in the Premiership, managed by Peter Slade, and another in League Two, managed by Mandy Butler. The teams do not usually face Aylesbury, who compete in the Championship division, making this a unique and competitive encounter.
The 50-minute match proved to be a real test for both sides, with chances at either end. Slough’s goalkeepers were in inspired form, with Calum Harding (first half) and Connor Smith (second half) producing superb saves to deny Aylesbury, showing excellent reflexes to stop several dangerous counter-attacks.
At the other end, Slough’s attackers also caused problems, although clear-cut chances were limited by Aylesbury’s strong and organised defence. The Rebels looked to break through with quick, accurate passing as they searched for an opening.
Slough came closest to breaking the deadlock late in the second half when they were awarded a penalty, but the effort struck the post and Aylesbury reacted quickly to clear the rebound.
Colin from Aylesbury FC said: “What a great morning! Thanks to everyone from Slough Town for a great match.”
We would like to wish Aylesbury the very best for the remainder of the season and look forward to welcoming them to Arbour Park in the future.
A special thank you also goes to Noel Collins, who flew back from Spain to drive the coach, ensuring the team didn’t miss out on the fixture.
The Rebels who played:
Calum Harding, Connor Smith, Alex Hibbert, Tony Haines, Leo Jumratie, Owen Gareppo, Dwyane Shaw, Roberto Puglisi-Hay, Yannick Prinslay, Erick Garcia, Brayan Melgar, Eliasaf López, Daniel Gealy and Damien Ebsworth
