Slough Town Football Club are delighted to announce the launch of a brand-new initiative as part of our Extra Time Hub, with a new weekly social group aimed at tackling loneliness and social isolation among the over-50s in the local community.
The project becomes the fifth new initiative launched by the club this year and has been inspired by similar successful schemes run by EFL clubs across the country.
With more people working later in life than ever before, the sessions have been designed to be accessible for those still in employment. In the UK, 72% of people aged 50-64 are currently in employment, compared to 57% in the mid-1990s, while the number of 65-year-olds in work has doubled since 2000. To reflect this, the sessions will run every Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm.
The sessions will provide a welcoming, safe and friendly environment where attendees can enjoy a range of activities including games, quizzes, arts and crafts, sport, or simply relax and socialise with others.
The initiative has been made possible thanks to funding support from the National League Trust and Stoke Park Trust, with Stoke Park Active hosting the weekly sessions.
The sessions are completely free to attend.
Session details:
- Stoke Park Active, 225-227 Northern Road, Slough, SL2 1LU
- Every Tuesday, 6pm-8pm
- Free of charge
Please note these sessions are not held at Arbour Park.
