Managers New Year Update
Steve Bateman's New Year Update
A belated Happy New Year to everyone from the Management and Players and I thought I would take this opportunity to update our supporters on what has been going on at the club during the continued bad weather which has seen all matches since December 12th cancelled.
Firstly, I can assure everyone that we have been working hard during the break and have managed to train regularly, either at the Polish Club or indoors in a decent sized Sports Hall, so we can get the balls out and play as well as keep in good physical shape.
I arranged a friendly away at St.Neots this week, a bit further away than ideal, but in these strange times we'll take what we can get and we were happy to play on their 3G Astro surface. St Neots have a new ground and fantastic facilities and was hopefully an insight into what we aspire to have when our own new ground comes to fruition.
The result was of no significance to me, although it was 1-1 when we called an early end to proceedings after 75 minutes as we were getting messages regarding the heavy snow falling back at home. Nathan scored our goal and we did struggle to come to grips with the surface at times but it was a very useful workout during this frustrating period.
The major plus for me from the game, was the opportunity for Garry Sippetts to make a 30 minute appearance following his pre season injury and for that reason alone this game was fully worth it and a huge factor in playing it. Garry is now back in full training with us, and for me that is a great boost at the turn of the year and probably earlier than we both expected.
Looking ahead, it seems that this bad weather is set to continue and I've already confirmed our indoor venue for the weekend in the likelihood it will be required so we will continue to tick over and have to be patient until we can get back into competitive action.
Let's hope it's not too long before we do just that and I am certain that we will be as well prepared as anyone following the enforced break!
