Slough Town joins experimental Under 21's league

Slough Town FC is proud to announce it's joint involvement in association with the Slough LFP (Local Football Partnership) in the formation of a new experimental Under 21's league - The Mars U21 Development League.

The club has been engaged in regular meetings with the LFP which includes representatives from Slough Council, Berks & Bucks FA, Charter Status Clubs and Slough Parks Enterprise looking for ways to promote football at all levels.

One of the biggest areas highlighted was the apparent gap between youth football and mens senior football. After 4 months of planning the Berks & Bucks FA in co-operation with Mars proposed the formation of a new U21's league. On 4th November, 4 teams attended the launch and took to the pitch with the aim of establishing a new adult league. This included Slough Town FC U21's, Langley Hornets FC U21's, Jubilee Eagles U21's & CPR U21's with Taplow Utd U21's joining a week later.

With no reserve side for it's current U18's to filter into and no other footballing options outside of Saturday or Sunday men's team the logical option of an entry into the new league under the Slough Town umbrella. This team has been formed of current fringe U18 players and former members of last seasons youth side.

Games are played Wednesday evenings under floodlights at Wexham School in a round robin style competition and will continue for 5 weeks. Each game consists of 30 minute half's, a 5 minute half time and with roll on/roll off substitutes.

As part of this new initiative the FA will be present at games and filming videos of this new venture. The aim is to run another similar initiative early next year and potentially establish a sustainable Mars U21 Development League within the near future.

Slough Towns new U21's started the league in style with a 5-1 victory over Langley Hornets U21.
