Slough Town Football Club can confirm it has reached an agreement with Aldershot Town for Scott Davies to become First Team Manager with immediate effect, bringing to an end his eight-year association with the club as both player and manager.

Scott first joined the Rebels in March 2018 during the final stages of a successful promotion push, quickly establishing himself as an important figure within the squad. Across his time at the club, he went on to make 292 appearances and score 17 goals. A technically gifted player, Scott will be remembered for his ability to produce moments of real quality – including three remarkable goals from inside his own half – as well as his outstanding execution of free kicks. He was part of the side that secured promotion to National League South in 2017/18, lifted the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup in 2018/19, and twice won the club’s Goal of the Season award.

Scott remained a key part of the squad over the following seasons, consistently contributing both in midfield and in defence, before stepping into management in November 2022 during a period of real instability and uncertainty for the club. He was tasked with rebuilding confidence and results at a difficult moment.

Scott’s tenure began in challenging fashion, but a turning point arrived on Boxing Day with an outstanding 3-1 victory away at Oxford City – his first win as manager. That result sparked a seven-game unbeaten run, including important victories over Dulwich Hamlet and Hampton & Richmond Borough, as the Rebels steadily climbed the table. Key loan additions, including goalkeeper Will Dennis, central defender Temi Eweka and striker George Alexander, proved crucial, while Ogo Obi added important goals. Emphatic home wins against Hungerford Town (4-0) and Chippenham Town (6-1) helped secure survival, with the club finishing 18th on 51 points – a remarkable achievement given the circumstances in which Scott took charge.

In 2023/24, his first full season at the helm, Scott built on that momentum to guide the club to an impressive 10th-place finish with 68 points, narrowly missing out on the play-offs. After losing six of the opening seven matches, a vital win at Dartford proved a catalyst for a strong run of form. A home victory over Aveley marked the beginning of a remarkable year-long unbeaten run at Arbour Park in all competitions, stretching from September 2023 to September 2024. The season also featured a memorable run in the FA Cup, including a standout victory over Ebbsfleet United, which set up a First Round tie against Grimsby Town. Scott himself opened the scoring in that tie with a trademark free kick, while the campaign also featured many memorable league victories, including a historic first win at Torquay United’s Plainmoor.

The 2024/25 season saw the Rebels make a strong start, briefly sitting top of the table after five matches, before a home defeat to Hemel Hempstead Town brought an end to the long unbeaten home run. The team once again secured a comfortable mid-table finish, ending the season in 16th place with 57 points. There were several standout performances, including notable victories over title challengers Dorking Wanderers and Worthing, while cup competitions again provided highlights. A memorable win over Maidenhead United in the Isuzu FA Trophy – the first competitive meeting between the sides in over two decades – stood out, alongside a number of exciting attacking displays from players such as Slavi Spasov, Leon Parillon and David Ogbonna.

The 2025/26 campaign will be remembered as one of the most dramatic of Scott’s tenure. A difficult start in the league left the Rebels in 22nd place on Christmas Day with 19 points from 21 games. However, alongside those struggles came a truly memorable run in the FA Cup. A superb victory over Altrincham set up a home televised Second Round tie against Macclesfield in front of a record Arbour Park crowd of 2,500. In a dramatic and unforgettable occasion, the Rebels pushed their National League North opponents all the way, with a late leveller forcing extra time before eventually bowing out – a performance that captured the spirit and resilience of Scott’s side during a season heavily affected by injuries.

That same resilience defined the second half of the league season. A 3-1 victory away at Maidenhead United on Boxing Day proved the catalyst for a remarkable turnaround, with the Rebels collecting 30 points from 15 games between Boxing Day and early March to secure their status with games to spare. Despite significant injury challenges – including the loss of captain Henry Ochieng for the season – Scott guided the team to safety in impressive fashion. Highlights included a stunning 5-0 home win over Chelmsford City, back-to-back away victories at Bath City and Hornchurch, and a dramatic home draw against Maidenhead United.

Across his time as manager, Scott earned a strong reputation for developing and nurturing talent, helping players such as Leon Parillon, David Ogbonna, Slavi Spasov and Wiktor Makowski progress in their careers, while building a team defined by resilience, togetherness and belief.

Scott leaves having made a lasting impact both on and off the pitch, as player and player/manager, having taken on the role at a time of uncertainty and shaped it through leadership, determination and commitment.

CEO, Ashley Smith had the following to say:

“Sadly, this outcome was inevitable due to Scott taking to management so easily. On a personal level, he has been an absolute pleasure to work with. The fact that his personal and football values were aligned made him the perfect person for myself and A23 Football ownership from the beginning.

"Scott is hugely ambitious, and to date we have had several approaches for him. However, this was slightly different due to the nature of Scott’s emotional tie to Aldershot Town. I’m proud Scott has been our manager. We have backed him and always ensured he felt that.

"During Scott’s tenure, we have had some memorable moments which have created lifelong memories. Success on and off the pitch has been evident and has made the journey so rewarding.

"Scott has become a dear friend, so this makes it all the more difficult. Myself and the board would like to personally thank Scott for the tireless work and commitment he has shown to this wonderful club.

"We wish Scott every success in his exciting new chapter. We now embark on our own new chapter, one that brings excitement and optimism as we look to find the next person to lead the club forward."

Everyone at Slough Town thanks Scott for his outstanding contribution and wishes him every success in his new role.
