Slough Town Football Club is delighted to confirm the appointment of Alan Julian as Men’s First Team Manager.

Julian arrives at Arbour Park with a wealth of experience across the professional and non-league game, both as a player and more recently as a manager. A former goalkeeper, he enjoyed an outstanding 22-year playing career, making 664 senior appearances and establishing himself as a respected and consistent presence between the posts.

He began his journey in football with Brentford, joining the club at the age of nine and progressing through the academy before making his first-team debut in November 2002. After gaining early Football League experience, Julian moved to Stevenage Borough in 2005, where he would go on to become a key figure. During his first spell, he was named Player of the Year and played a central role in the club’s historic FA Trophy triumph in 2007, starting the final at Wembley Stadium as Stevenage became the first team to win a competitive final at the newly rebuilt venue.

A move to Gillingham followed in 2008, where Julian made 80 appearances across three seasons and was part of the squad that secured promotion to League One. He later returned to Stevenage for a second spell before continuing his career with Newport County, where he was part of the squad that achieved promotion back to the Football League in 2013.

Julian’s career continued with spells at Dartford, where he was named Player of the Year, as well as Sutton United and Bromley, helping the latter to promotion to the National League. He later enjoyed a successful period at Billericay Town, making over 150 appearances and winning promotion to the National League South, before concluding his playing career with Hampton & Richmond Borough.

On the international stage, Julian represented Northern Ireland at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level, further highlighting the breadth of his experience within the game.

Following his retirement in May 2024, Julian transitioned into management with Hampton & Richmond Borough, having initially joined the club’s coaching staff. He was appointed First Team Manager ahead of the 2024/25 season, guiding the side through a challenging campaign in the National League South and securing their status in the division under difficult circumstances. He remained in charge until December 2025.

Julian now takes the next step in his managerial career with Slough Town, bringing with him a deep understanding of the non-league landscape, strong leadership qualities and a vast amount of experience built over more than two decades in the game.

Alan had the following to say on his appointment:

"First things first, I’d like to say that I am absolutely delighted to be joining Slough Town Football Club.

"The discussions with Ashley, Tristan and Simon have been nothing but positive, and the drive and ambition they have really excites me about the club.

"I’ve had many experiences at Arbour Park over the years, and one thing that has always impressed me is the passion and support the crowd gives the team. We will need every ounce of this moving forward.

"I can assure you all that I will do everything in my power to make everyone proud of the team in the coming season.

"Let’s get to work!

"On a personal note, I’d like to wish Scott Davies all the very best in his role at Aldershot. He did an amazing job here, and I’m sure everyone at the club wishes Scotty well."

Ashley Smith, CEO commented on the appointment:

“We are delighted that Alan Julian has accepted the role of first-team manager. Following an extensive recruitment process that attracted more than 100 applicants of an exceptionally high calibre, Alan stood out throughout.

“During the process, he demonstrated outstanding qualities both as a person and as a professional, as well as an excellent knowledge of the game and the National League South, together with a strong ambition to achieve success. His values and core principles are closely aligned with those of the club, which makes us excited for the next chapter at Slough Town.

“We can’t wait for the Rebels faithful to meet Jules, and we will be announcing an opportunity for supporters to do so at a fans’ forum in the coming days.”

Everyone at Slough Town Football Club would like to extend a warm welcome to Alan and wish him every success in his new role.
