Slough Town Football Club today confirmed that popular midfielder John Gray has left the club and signed for Division One Midlands side Marlow.

The left-winger, who was undoubtedly one of Slough's best players last season, joined the club from Thatcham Town.

After taking some time to settle in at the club he soon made the left-winger's position his own with notable performances against Farnborough (home) and AFC Hayes (away).

He will probably be best remembered though for his outstanding performance in last season's vital away game against Newport IOW. Setting-up Terry Davies for the levelling goal, and then latching onto a Roy Gumbs centre to put the ball high into the net to joyous scenes from both travelling supporters and players, as it seemed at the time the Rebels were all but doomed to draw and effectively be relegated.

Manager Derek Sweetman was reluctant to let Gray leave, but with the signing of Eamonn McGonigley he could not be guaranteed first-team football. John leaves with the club's best wishes with the door left open to a return should things not work out.

There could in fact be an early return to face his former club Slough as the Rebels take on the winners of the Berks & Bucks Cup match between Beaconsfield SYCOB and Marlow later in the season.
