Slough Town’s unbeaten run was extended to 29 games at the expense of Maidenhead at Slough Stadium on Monday night. After their recent mediocre performances Slough chose this game to show a complete mastery of the muddy conditions, and although they pressed Maidenhead well back in the first half, they found themselves one goal down at half-time. After the break it was the same pressure but this time five goals were scored as Slough demonstrated why they are sitting at the top of two league tables and about to contest two cup semi-finals.
Terry Reardon made his long-awaited return, and certainly made his mark, with two well-taken goals and many touches of his old mastery in the muddy conditions he likes so much. He started the game in great form but seemed to lose touch for much of the first half, but the second period saw him almost back to his best. Roger Day was injured in the twenty-fifth minute and Amos substituted.
After the break it was all one way, a Reardon lob dropped in the Maidenhead area and the resulting skirmish ended in Mr Hart awarding a penalty which O'Sullivan cooly converted.
In the sixtieth minute Eaton was booked for a foul on Toetman, and three minutes later Slough were in front. Again from a penalty, again a Reardon pass to Amos, who scored, but he was fouled before he got his shot in and Mr. Hart had already signalled the penalty. O'Sullivan fired home again to make the score 2-1.
Before any further goals Tottman was booked for a foul on D'Arcy, and then in the seventy fifth minute a delicate cross from was headed home by a jubilant Reardon. Maidenhead immediately substituted Woozley for Howell but this could stem the tide. Reardon smashed home the fourth goal in the eighty-second minute, and Cruse completed the scoring in the eighty-ninth, when he headed home a rebound from a Turl shot.
