Slough Town bounced back from their Enfield collapse with an easy four-goal win over Harwich and Parkeston at the stadium on Saturday, and they are now all set for the Athenian League championship run in, Slough were masters of the situation in every department of the game and but for a great display of goalkeeping by Armstrong in the visitors' goal the margin would have been much greater.
With Day still unfit, Turl injured, Hill absent for personal reasons and Wolstenholme recovering from flu, Reardon, Hyde and Jamieson returned to first team duty and all acquitted themselves well, Reardon scoring the first goal and giving a fine first half performance, although his lack of match fitness showed in the second half. Hyde did all that was required of him and made three very good saves.
The Slough side came out to a terrific reception from the home crowd, applauded on to the field by some of the finest supporters in amateur football. From the whistle Slough took charge of the game, a power shot from Amos after three minutes was too much for the Harwich keeper bug he managed to fall on the rebound from his body before any Slough player could put it away.
With Jamieson showing some fine touches and powerful running much of the weight was taken off Ritchie and with Amos looking very dangerous the first quarter of an hour was almost shooting practice for Slough.
The first goal came in the 24th minute, after the ball had bounced about the Harwich area and two shots had been blocked Reardon pulled the bail down and slammed it into the back of the net. Ten minutes later a Jamieson shot was headed off the goal-line but there was no further score before half time.
The second half was only nine minutes, old when Slough increased their lead. A run by Ritchie down the right flank, a low cross and there was Amos to tap home number two. Three minutes later and a repeat goal from the left, Ritchie to Amos and the ball was in the back of the net off the post. After this Harwich were allowed to come back into the game and in the 65th came their best effort when Dulley hit the Slough upright. Slough would not be contained and in the 79th a Jamieson cross was headed home by Ritchie to make the score 4-0.
