A goal in the 13th minute by Welsh international Geoff Anthony earned Slough Town a point from this Isthmian League match at Harlow on Saturday, but had the visitors played as well in the second half as they did in the first, they would have collected all three points and maintained their 100 percent record. Slough made three changes from the Chesham match — Ian Reid left out for disciplinary reasons, Brian Caterer dropped and Roy Davies injured.

In came the new centre-field player Terry Watts, defender John Beyer and midfield man Steve Crosby.

Up front Peter Lavers and the lively Anthony did well, while Tommy James might have had a couple of goals. Had they received the same service after the interval as before it, more goals must have resulted.

After a quiet start Slough went close when Lavers was just off target with a back-header in the tenth minute, and three minutes later the visitors took the lead. Reardon found Lavers with a fine pass, and when the latter flicked the ball on to Anthony, the Welshman shot home.

In the 20th minute Harlow had their only real scoring chance so far when Sedgwick fastened on to a header from Reardon, but with only Peter Spittle to beat, the Harlow centre-forward miskicked.

Slough began to get caught up regularly in the Harlow off-side trap, but in the 32nd minute they beat it when Anthony collected a long clearance from Spittle and turned and shot in one movement, bringing a fine save from Wiseman in the home goal.

At the other end Spittle dived to save a shot from Jessey, but generally Slough were in command, and they went close again when James shot just over the bar from a free-kick.

A fine run by Anthony in the 42nd minute left James with a great chance increasing Slough's lead, but the latter delayed his shot and ended by
hitting the ball high over the bar.

Right on half time, and against the run of play, Harlow equalised. Left-winger Duggan slipped through the Slough defence and although he finished with a weak shot, it hit Watts’ leg and left Spittle stranded.

Harlow opened the second half strongly and Watts made up for his earlier disappointment when he cleared a header from Droy off the line with Spittle
beaten.

Slough survived the pressure and hit back when O'Sullivan sent a shot across the goal that Lavers just failed to reach with his outstretched foot. Slough won a couple of corners, but from that point the game deteriorated, neither side looking like adding to the score.
