Slough Town won their first Rothmans’ £25 bonus on Saturday when they scored four goals against bottom of the league Southall at Slough Stadium. To qualify for the cash bonus, a team has to score three or more goals. Peter Lavers scored a hat-trick and the other goal went to new signing Alan Ayling.

From the first whistle it was Slough who stamped their authority on the game, two corners in the first three minutes put the Southall defence under immediate pressure, but it was not until the 16th minute that Slough looked like going in front when Reardon, playing well upfield, raced through only to see his shot parried by Revel and cleared away. Two minutes later, Lavers dribbled the ball through a packed penalty area before beating the keeper with a low shot, but the ball was cleared off the line.

In the 23rd Brown raced clear from an O'Sullivan pass but Revel pulled off another fine save. Within minutes Brown and Anthony combined to work the
ball down the night flank before crossing for Lavers to head goalwards, but again Revel was equal to the situation, and so it continued until half-time.

After the interval Slough continued the pressure, but for a brief spell Southall looked dangerous, with Henderson creating havoc in the Slough defence, in the 53rd midst great confusion in the Slough area two shots were cleared off the goal line but the danger was slowly averted.

In the 56th came the first goal. A corner on the right was cleared out to Ayling standing five yards outside the penalty area, he immediately volleyed it back and it was deflected past the groping Revel to put Slough one up.

Five minutes later it was two-nil. Lavers raced clear his shot struck Revel and bounced up for Lavers to run forward and prod home.

In the 73rd a little light relief was supplied by referee Daniels when Slough substituted Terry Male, after inquiring who was to come off the referee turned and shouted across the pitch, “Come in number ten, your time is up.”

Brown then took over the vacant trainer's bench seat. Male was immediately in action, worrying the defence and drawing Revel and defenders to him, he missed his shot but the ball ran clear to Lavers who hammered home number three.

In the 84th came the final goal, again it was Lavers running clear of the Southall defence to give Revel no chance as Lavers completed his hat-trick and assured Slough of their first high score bonus.
