If Slough win at Aveley on Saturday they are certain of promotion to the Premier section of the Isthmian League next season, at the moment just two points stand between them and top football. On Monday evening at Wokingham they picked up full points by the odd goal in five with Kemp the hero scoring a hat trick.

Anthony the club's Welsh international was carried off with a twisted knee and will be out of the game for the rest of the season.

With victory so important to Slough they went all out from the start playing fast attacking football which frequently split the home defence wide open but it was Wokingham who registered the first shock of the game, after five minutes Gale sent in a harmless looking free kick which in some unaccountable way Spittle allowed to trickle into the net.

This made Slough redouble their efforts and in the 15th minute Anthony won a corner and from the kick Kemp headed the ball home but despite a fine effort by Brown, the ball sailing inches over the bar, half-time arrived with the score line 1-1.

With the Anthony injury coming only a few minutes after the resumption it was obvious Slough were going to be hard put to it for a win. Watts came on as substitute and Turl went up front. A second goal to Slough in the 54th minute was a great encouragement, again it was Kemp who headed the ball into the net.

The ex-Maidenhead player, who had a great game, completed his hat trick with another well taken goal following a Williams free kick. Even now Wokingham were not done with after Spittle had half cleared the ball it was banged back into the goalmouth and Steer lobbed it goalwards for Cannon to clear but a linesman indicated the ball was over the line and the referee awarded a goal.

Slough, at times played very well and they certainly deserved their success with Kemp taking the man of the match award. Wokingham put up a good fight and played a good deal better than their position in the table suggests.
