Slough in benevolent mood allowed relegation candidates Kingstonian off the hook at Richmond Road, on Saturday. A goal from each side in the second half settled the result but Slough manager Roy Sleap must be wondering why Town did not collect a high score bonus. Anthony scored Slough's goal four minutes from the end after the K’s had taken the lead from a penalty.
Kemp the Slough star goal scorer was watched by Brentford scouts, and although not at his best had a useful game and was very unlucky not to get goals.
Slough had two of their promising youngsters, East and Bisset in their team squad but Sleap decided to rely on the usual formation. The Town attack with Anthony, Chatterton and Kemp always dangerous kept pushing forward but the midfield support they received was not as good as usual.
Slough's defence had an easy day for the opposition were seldom a serious threat. The game was only 11 minutes old when Slough had their first chance when Williams fired in a fine shot which Bath did well to tip away for a corner. Anthony, Chatterton and Kemp all went close but half time arrived with the score sheet blank, although Clarke hit a Slough upright.
Kingstonian, livened up after the interval and in the 58th minute they were awarded a penalty when O'Sullivan handled right on the goal line. Cook, scored from the spot with a shot which gave Spittle no chance.
Slough lost their touch after this set back but they slowly got back into the game and after Underwood was pulled off and substitute Smith came on there was a reshuffle with Turl going up front.
This move certainly produced more attacking moves and in the 87th minute a well placed corner was headed on by Cannon to Turl who headed goalwards, but the ball was half cleared to Anthony who hammered it home off the underside of the bar.
Slough were now very much on top and they could well have taken the maximum points when a Chatterton free kick sailed through the defence wall but Bath brought off a great save.
Slough should have won but the ball did not run too kindly for them and Kingstonian fought desperately hard all the way through.
