Slough Ease Into Final
Slough Town eased their way through to the final of the Diadora League Cup on Tuesday night, with a brace of second-half goals sending them on their way to a comfortable 5-2 aggregate win.
But it took a half-time rocket from manager Dave Russell - who blushingly described the match as 'a game of two halves' - to fire his team to victory after a first-half goal from the home side cut down a two-goal first-leg lead - and put the Rebels' trophy chances in the balance.
It was Dulwich who enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, taking the lead after just 11 minutes. Midfielder Gary Hewitt swung in a corner, which was headed goalwards by striker Willie Lillington; his effort was blocked but he seized on the rebound to hook it in from 10 yards.
Hamlet continued to pressurise the visitors' goal, but were unable to create many clear-cut chances, and in the second-half, Slough's class told as they began to control the game and continually catch Dulwich on the break.
It was only a matter of time before Slough scored, and four minutes after the restart, the inevitable happened; it was Bushay who cut past centre-half Albert Hunter, and pulled the ball back to the edge of the box. West. thundering in, hit the hall first time past helpless 'keeper John Power.
Nine minutes from time, Dulwich struggled to clear a low cross and Martin Stone was on hand to score from 10 yards.
Looking forward to the final, Russell said his side had no-one to fear : "I'm mot really bothered who we get" he said. "Aylesbury would be nice, though."
