Own goal in extra time sees Rebels through

Slough Town are through to the Third Round of the Red Insure Cup thanks to an own goal from Aylesbury's Ronayne Marsh-Brown seven minutes in to extra time.

Both sides made a number of changes for the game, and Slough’s Omar Vassell fired wide early on before Aylesbury’s Kurt Morlese shot wide after cutting in from the left.

Jamie Jackson, returning to take the gloves for Slough once again, saved from Sonny French and Morlese fired wide again with Aylesbury having the better of the first half.

Slough started the second half brightly, whilst Aylesbury were hampered by an injury to Jamie Connor, who was forced off with an ankle injury.

Ollie Burgess fired a clear chance wide for Slough as the visitors broke away, but as the game drew to a close, Aylesbury spurned a number of chances which would have won them the tie. French and Morlese went close twice, before Craig Faulconbridge’s header was cleared off the line in the final minute.

Deep into stoppage time, the tricky Leon Osei had an effort pushed round the post but time ran out and extra time followed.

As the temperature dropped to -3C, neither side really wanted the additional half hour of play, but Slough made the most of it, scoring what proved to be the winner seven minutes in. Ashley Deeney’s low cross from the right was diverted into his own goal by the unfortunate Ronayne Marsh-Brown, the former Maidenhead and Northwood full-back.

Aylesbury could not find a way back into the game and Slough held out to seal their place in the next round.
