Pre-season: Rebels edged out by young Addicks
Slough are edged out by a young Charlton Athletic side in their final pre-season match.
Slough Town were edged out by a young Charlton Athletic side in their final pre-season match.
The Rebels played a strong eleven in the first half and emptied their bench at half time, bringing on the remaining senior players and a handful of young players and trialists.
The young Addicks caught Slough out with barely a minute on the clock, as a defence-splitting pass put Ryan Viggars through on goal, and he finished coolly past Hubert Graczyk.
Just a few minutes later, another burst down the right by Tolu Ladapo led to him finding Daniel Kanu at the back post, and he doubled his side’s lead.
Slough got back into the game in spectacular fashion on eight minutes, with Matt Lench volleying into the top corner on his left foot from just inside the box.
Tom McElroy was denied by Charlton’s goalkeeper on 17 minutes after being played in on goal by Nathan Minhas.
A minute before the break, Tyrese Dyce was brought down in the penalty area and Johnny Goddard stepped up to place his penalty kick to the goalkeeper’s left.
Charlton had the better of the second half against a much-changed Slough side and took the lead on 54 minutes as Jason Adigun beat goalkeeper Charlie Patmore to a pass forwards and lobbed the ball into an empty goal.
Slough were level again just before the hour mark though, with Leon Chambers-Parillon finding the top corner with a stunning strike from 25 yards.
An unfortunate own goal from Rudi Pache decided the contest, the defender inadvertently sending a cross from the right past Patmore.
There was still time for Patmore to make a good block from Viggars deep into stoppage time.
