Slough Town suffered a sixth consecutive defeat to begin their National League South campaign as Braintree Town secured a 2-1 victory at Arbour Park.
Chris Regis cancelled out Reuben Swann's early opener to bring the Rebels level before half time, but Anisius Lewis restored Braintree's advantage six minutes from time. Slough were reduced to ten men in stoppage time when Arthur Gregory was shown a straight red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
The result leaves Slough still searching for their first point of the season, with two away fixtures now to come.
There were three changes to the Slough starting XI, with Stevie Bausor, Josh Brooking and Luke Holness coming into the side.
The visitors made the brighter start and took the lead after just six minutes. Reuben Swann drove through the middle before unleashing a low effort from outside the penalty area which found the bottom corner beyond Bausor.
Braintree continued to pose a threat and almost doubled their advantage five minutes later when Emmanuel Okunowo lifted a pass over the Slough defence for Swann, who drilled the ball across the face of goal, but nobody in a white shirt was able to apply the finishing touch.
Josh Brooking was booked in the 13th minute for bringing down Courtney Senior, before the match was temporarily halted as Louis Walsh received treatment for an off-the-ball injury.
Walsh was unable to continue and was replaced by Jaiden Drakes-Thomas in the 24th minute.
Slough gradually began to find their rhythm and created an opportunity to draw level when Chris Regis struck a powerful drive from outside the box. George Barrett was equal to it, parrying the effort behind for a corner.
The pressure from the resulting set-piece eventually told. The ball broke to Regis inside the area and the midfielder fired towards goal, with the effort finding its way past Barrett despite a defender attempting to keep it out on the line.
With the scores level, both sides continued to threaten before the interval. Braintree remained dangerous around the Slough penalty area and Bausor produced an important save in the closing stages of the half, tipping a near-post effort behind.
Slough therefore went into half time level at 1-1.
Arthur Gregory replaced Latrell Humphrey-Ewers at the interval, and the Rebels made an encouraging start to the second period. Johnny Goddard tested Barrett from distance in the 47th minute, forcing the Braintree goalkeeper to palm the ball behind.
The visitors, though, soon began to exert increasing pressure. Bausor was called upon again when Anisius Lewis got away from his marker and attempted to bend an effort into the bottom corner, only for a deflection to take it wide.
