About Mathew

Young striker Mathew Stevens joined the Rebels on loan from EFL League One side Peterborough United on 31 August 2018.

Born and raised in Camberley, Matty was a keen boxer whilst also playing in the youth teams of Aldershot Town, Farnborough and Reading. He joined Barnet and went on to become their youngest ever player aged 16 years and 204 days. His first senior goal in an FA Trophy tie against Concord Rangers also made him the club's youngest ever goalscorer.

He moved to 'The Posh' from Barnet in the summer of 2016. Loan spells at Cambridge City and Sligo Rovers in Ireland followed, and in 2017/18 he had a hugely successful season at Kettering Town, where he scored 34 goals in all competitions (25 in the league) as the Poppies challenged alongside the Rebels for promotion from the Southern League, Premier Division.

Matty scored 11 goals in 19 appearances for the Rebels, helping the club to the Second Round of the FA Cup, before being recalled by Peterborough in early December 2018.
