Slough Town manager Steve Bateman last night confirmed his initial squad that will form the nucleus of his side for the 2009/10 Zamaretto Midlands division campaign.
It didn't take a great deal of persuasion. Simon (Martin) has an understanding of the heritage of the club and wants to lead our line. I'm delighted to bring him in Steve Bateman in the Observer Slough Town manager Steve Bateman last night confirmed his initial squad that will form the nucleus of his side for the 2009/10 Zamaretto Midlands division campaign.
After the early season signings of Chris Herron, Paul Edgeworth, Steve Jackman and Garry Sippetts a number of other players have committed themselves to Slough Town for the forthcoming campaign.
Striker Simon Martin joins the club from St.Albans City. Simon made his City debut in March 1996 and has since played for Lincoln United, Hucknall Town, Thurrock, Hayes and Yeading and Wealdstone. St Albans paid £5,000 for his services when he was signed from Hucknall Town. He scored 92 goals in 262 appearances during his time at Clarence Park.
Left-back Danny Murphy has also signed for the Rebels. Murphy started his career in the QPR Youth side, from there he then moved onto AFC Wimbledon. After leaving the Dons he has since played for Hendon and Northwood.
Goalkeeper Ricky Perks also arrives at the club via St.Albans, Hemel Hempstead Town and Hitchin. Perks is a tall and commanding goalkeeper who appeared in the Conference while at St.Albans. Perks will battle it out for the number one position at the club with last year’s supporters player of the year Jamie Jackson when Jackson returns from injury.
Dean Sinclair joins the club after scoring a hatful of goals last season for Bovingdon in the Herts County League last year. He impressed in the first game of pre-season for the Rebels by notching a hat-trick against Penn and Tylers Green.
Another striker to join the club is Phil Turner . Turner has played a number of pre-season games for the Rebels and has also represented Aveley, Chesham, Potters Bar Town, Cheshunt, Boreham Wood and Wealdstone.
Combative midfielder Grant Avis has also signed Southern League forms for the Rebels and will add competition for places in the midfield area.
One or two of the new players on show in recent pre-season games for the Rebels could also sign for the club and this will be announced on the official site, should it happen.
