Under 18's secure ACYFL Premier Division Title
Slough Town's Under 18s become ACYFL Premier Division Champions
Tony Thompson's U18s were crowned champions of the Allied Counties Youth Football League Premier Division after Farnborough failed to beat Sun Postal Sports by the 16 clear goals needed to overtake Slough for the title.
In doing so, the young Rebels gained the club's first piece of silverware since the 2008/9 season where the youth side won the Allied Counties Central Division in their opening season back in the Allied Counties league.
This caps off a remarkable season for Slough's youth team, who began the season in mixed form, winning just two of their opening six league fixtures.
Whilst a season of consolidation was being expected, the young Rebels turned around their season following a 4-2 win against Maidenhead United. This led to the growth of a positive attitude within the squad, and Thompson's side went on a magnificent run of form - securing eight straight league victories at the turn of the year - which propelled the side to the top of the table. In amongst this run were two victories against last season's champions Wealdstone with 5-2 and 7-2 victories recorded.
The squad's attacking mentality showed and proved to be the cause of the title win as the title was eventually decided on goals scored, with Slough and Wealdstone tied on goal difference at the top of the table.
Scoring an average of 3.2 goals a game (4.1 at home), the young Rebels finished the season top scorers in their league with young striker Tony Mendy scoring 47 of the side's 63 goals, winning him the league golden boot by over 20 clear goals.
As a result, Mendy and defender Ismail Mohamed were both promoted into the first team against Beaconsfield on the final day of the Southern League season as a result of their consistent performances over the course of the season.
Other key performers have been goalkeeper Jamal Richmond, midfielders Joe Blount and Billy Canavan with the latter also being part of the Central Division title winning side two seasons ago.
Manager Tony Thompson expressed his thanks to his backroom team of Terry Porteus, Barbara Stewart and Chris Sliski who have all been instrumental in the clubs continued success since joining the Allied Counties League setup two seasons ago.
