Sweetman appointed manager
Slough Town have today appointed Derek Sweetman as manager as Mark Betts resigns from his position as First Team Manager.
Upon returning from the postponed clash with Bridgwater Town, Mark Betts sat with the clubs management committee who accepted the manager's decision to resign. This follows the departure of Richard Barnard earlier this week to focus on business interests outside of football.
Betts has worked tirelessly in recent weeks to pull the club back up the table, going above and beyond to focus on club activities, but whilst results and performances may not have been present on the pitch, it has not reflected Betts enthusiasm, drive and love for the club. He has continually stated he only wanted the best for Slough Town FC and continued with a positive outlook despite the increasing pressure.
As a management committee, Slough Town FC had the utmost respect for the effort Mark has put into the club since taking over the managerial position. It is very apparent Mark wants only the best for the club and the door is always open to have Mark involved in any way possible with our future developments, particularly with the emergence of junior football linked to the club.
Derek Sweetman, most recently with Burnham FC, has been appointed as First Team Manager with immediate effect. First Team Coach Calvin Maye will continue in his position at the club and work with Derek.
Derek has extensive managerial experience at Marlow, Maidenhead United, Egham, Windsor & Eton, Bracknell and Burnham. Derek is a highly regarded enthusiastic manager and the committee are very pleased to welcome him to the club. Derek fully understands and appreciates the current position the club is in and will be focussing all his efforts on the remaining all important eight games.
For those longer term Rebels fans, you will of course remember Derek appearing for Slough during the late 70s and early 80s.
We would like to thank Richard Barnard and Mark Betts for all their hard work and commitment to the club they have shown since taking on the job. We wish them both all the best for their future endeavours.
