Slough Town Supporters' Trust news update
The March 2008 issue of the STST news letter.
Hello and welcome to the latest letter from the STST.
Firstly, an apology. This letter has been published a little later than initially promised due to unforeseen personal circumstances on my part, but the good news is that there is lots of news to get through.
The total money raised from the most recent Trust events has been calculated. Over the winter period, the Trust hosted the Christmas Draw and Race Night at the Polish Club and thanks to your support, we raised an overall profit of £1,352.67.
The next event in the Trust calendar will be the ever-popular Quiz Night to be held at the Polish Club on Thursday March 27th. The first round begins 8PM and entry is just £5 per person. Teams can have up to six players. The winning team will receive 50% of all that night's entrance fees. For more information, speak to Alan Harding or Mike Lightfoot.
Looking ahead slightly, plans are underway for the end of season Presentation Night. This will also be held at the Polish Club on Thursday May 1st, starting at 8PM and will include a race night.
Punters will have eight races to participate in and horses can be sponsored for just £5. If your sponsored horse wins, you gain £10 back! Race sponsorship costs £50 and TriCast tickets can be purchased for just £1. As a special treat, the owner of winning combination on last race wins a whopping £60, so it's all to play for.
All proceeds from this event will go towards the Club's playing budget.
This year's end of season walk will be a real challenge, but as always, the charity which benefits from the walkers' hard work (and sore feet) is a worthy one. This year, the Trust has chosen to donate half the money raised from the 26-mile walk to Fleet Town FC to Wexham Park Hospital's Treatment and Research in East Berks for Lymphoma and Leukaemia ward. A route is being worked upon by myself and Martin McCabe and as soon as one has been finalised we'll appeal for willing victims and get the sponsor forms printed.
As many of you will have heard, Steve Easterbrook has been declared STFC's new chairman. I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr Easterbrook to STFC and thank him for the time and money he has already invested in the club.
Closer cooperation between the club and the Trust is high on Mr Easterbrook's agenda, and one of the first items on his list is to ask for nominations for the new Stadium Trust board. Mr Easterbrook is currently investigating how best to structure this board, how many members will be required and how much time they will be expected to dedicate. The Stadium Trust will probably include a member of the council, Jayne Bradbury, several members from the football club, one or two members from the STST, the Slough Boxing Club and if they are to be included in the final project, the West Wing. Anyone wishing to put themselves forward for the Stadium Trust should speak to Mr Easterbrook or any member of the STFC management committee.
Finally, the Trust is sad to announce the resignation of Martin McCabe from the board. Martin will remain an active supporter of the club and will continue to offer his help and expertise in fundraising efforts. I'd like to thank Martin for his time and effort over the past few years.
Until next time - Up The Rebels!
Charlie Thomas - Communications Officer.
