Uxbridge Preview
Slough Town travel to Honeycroft on Saturday in the search of three points as they face Uxbridge in the British Gas Business Southern League Division One South & West.
Slough Town go into their match on Saturday at Uxbridge on the back of a 6-3 home defeat by high flying Didcot last Saturday. With the midweek free, the Rebels will have been working together to eradicate the problems of Saturday and improve on the positives to get things right at both ends of the pitch.
Whilst the Rebels will have been buoyed by the second half performance which saw them rack up three goals, there will be concern about their away form where they have yet to register a point this season. This, combined with Uxbridge's excellent home form which has seen them win five of six games played at Honeycroft, will point to a convincing home win on paper, but as we all know, games aren't won on paper!
Slough will welcome the return of a number of players to the squad for the clash at Honeycroft and players who were nursing minor injuries will have had time to heal up fully as the Rebels faced a clear midweek schedule. Young left sided player Raj Gill, who missed Saturday's clash after being called up to represent the Berks & Bucks Football Association in a county match will be available for selection again. Also returning to the squad will be Leon Woodruffe, Stanley Mugisha and John Ellis, which will no doubt boost the Rebels numbers ahead of a crunch clash. An extra week with the side will have also benefitted recent signings Dave Barratt, Enrico Grimm and Chris Robinson and they settle in to their new surroundings. Slough also have an approach in for a fellow Division One South & West striker and are hopeful of securing a defender ahead of the clash.
Uxbridge have been flying high this season and currently find themselves just outside the playoff positions in sixth place. Past form has seen the Rebels fare the better of the two sides in their six clashes, recording three wins and two draws. The most recent encounter between the two sides was a stormy affair, which was surprising for a pre-season friendly. An incident shortly before half time led to the match being abandoned, but personnel from both sides has changed since then, so no repeat of the offence which saw an Uxbridge player suspended for twelve matches is expected.
Former Chelsea player Mark Nicholls remains a key player with the Uxbridge side and scored the winner on Saturday as Uxbridge dumped Ryman Premier Division side Hastings United out of the FA Trophy.
