Rebels secure first two signings
Slough Town have moved to secure their first summer signings ahead of the 2008/9 British Gas Southern Football League season.
I'm currently in discussions with a number of other possible new signings, as well as the returning squad from last season. Derek Sweetman With forty-one players in attendance at the opening training session held on Tuesday evening, the Slough Town management team of Derek Sweetman, Steve Roberts and Calvin Maye put the players through an intensive first session. With players from a variety of experience and playing backgrounds, there was plenty for the team to take in.
With plans already afoot to mould the squad into competitive shape for the coming season, Slough were delighted to confirm the return of two former Rebels into the fold. Many will remember the goalscoring exploits of defender Richard Pierson as he broke onto the scene at Slough following their relegation from the Conference. Forming part of the hastily arranged squad following that nightmare summer, Pierson even managed a run of five goals in a three game spell including the opener in a 2-2 draw with Macclesfield in the First Round of the FA Cup. He has also had experience with Oxford City and Abingdon United and joins the club from Didcot Town where it appears he still had his goalscoring touch from old.
The second signing for the club took the form of another former Rebel. Craig Roberts, who excelled for Marlow last season, returns to the club following a spell away. Roberts was originally with the club as they secured him from Wycombe Wanderers on loan, but the spell was cruelly bought short as the versatile player broke his leg in a home defeat against Harrow Borough. Having spent time rebuilding his leg at Wycombe, Roberts then spent last season at Marlow and proved his versatility by slotting in comfortably into a number of positions throughout the park.
Manager Derek Sweetman was pleased with his first two captures. He said, “Richard will bring a wealth of experience to the squad and will be strong in both boxes at set plays. He had a number of offers on the table and some were offering more for his services than I could, so for him to chose us is a further sign that things are once again heading in the right direction for the club.
"Craig has a fantastic engine and will go box to box all day long. He's just had his first full season for a good couple of years and wants to make up for lost time. His energy and crossing ability will also be of a great benefit to the squad.

The Official Website will announce the signings as soon as we have them.
