Four more join Rebels
Four more players sign up with Slough Town ahead of the 2008/9 campaign.
We have secured a proven goal scorer at this level as well as fantastic player who is a lot more than just a top finisher Sweets on DJ Slough Town have today confirmed the signing of four further players for the 2008/9 campaign, taking the current squad total up to eleven with further players to sign within the next seven days.
Returning from last season's squad are goalkeeper Jamie Jackson and left midfielder John Gray.
Joining them is striker Matthew Platt, a 24 year old striker who was part of the youth academy setup at Crewe Alexandra. Matthew has also spent time in Iceland, won the FA Vase with Nantwich and most recently was with Biddulph Victoria where he scored 24 goals last season.
In addition to Platt, joining the front line is much sought after striker Danny Jordan. Jordan has been a long time target of Slough and following his scoring exploits last season with AFC Hayes, where he finished as the division's top scorer (with a total of 25 league and league cup goals), Jordan's signing can be classified as a real coup for the club.
Rebels manager Derek Sweetman was clearly delighted with the progress his squad is making so far this pre-season. With the first friendly looming on Saturday at Penn & Tylers Green, he had this to say about his recent captures.
"Four big signings this week led by the capture of Danny Jordan. We have been chasing "DJ" for a while now and finally we have secured a proven goal scorer at this level as well as fantastic player who is a lot more than just a top finisher. He leads the line well and brings others into the game and is a smashing lad who has already slotted in well.
"We have also captured another goal scoring striker in Matthew Platt. Platty is a former Crewe player who came though their academy and went on to spend three years as a pro with them. Just working with Platty for a few sessions you can tell he's been coached well, he has fantastic movement and can pass short or long as well as knowing how to finish. I'm really looking forward to seeing these two in action and I'm sure they will form a great partnership.
"I am also delighted to have resigned Jamie Jackson and John Gray. Jamie is a top keeper who has put in some terrific performances for Slough. He is highly regarded by his fellow players and I for one am looking forward to working with him again this season. Jamie and Jon (Beames) gives us two quality keepers which in this day and age will only help to make us stronger.
"John Gray is a terrific player and his level of performances at the end of last season tells me that he will be a massive boost to us this year. His crossing ability will supply great service to our front guys and I'm sure he will chip in with a few goals himself.
"I am currently close to signing a few more new faces as well as resigning some more of last seasons squad."
The new signings will be announced on the website as soon as they are confirmed.
