Slough Town Supporters’ Trust Newsletter
The October 2008 edition of the Slough Town Supporters’ Trust Newsletter as distributed at the Uxbridge home game.
Dear All,
Well, what a start to the season we’ve had! A wave of new signings, continued progress on the proposed Arbour Vale site, and even our first three wins.
Unfortunately, we are out of the FA Cup, following a hard-battled but ultimately unsuccessful match at Farnborough last month. Thankfully, we can take heart from the good news happening off the park, particularly in the form of charitable donations made by the Trust over the summer.
During the preseason, the Trust Board agreed to donate £1,500 to the junior section of S.T.F.C. to pay for their match fees at Beaconsfield. The Board also agreed to pay £800 to the Polish Club for the training facilities for both the senior club and the junior section this season.
We felt it was important to show our support for both the junior Rebels and the First XI and hopefully these funds can provide a solid foundation from which both teams can grow.
If you haven’t done so already, please renew your annual membership with Mark Hunter, and encourage everyone you can to join the ranks. Though the days of uncertainty look increasingly to be behind us, the Trust still has its role to play in the development of youth squads and football in the community, and it’s only through your generous donations that we can continue to do so.
Fundraising lies at the heart of the Slough Town Supporters’ Trust, and with the 2-day walk to Didcot just a few months away now, the Trust is appealing to members to nominate a suitable charity to share the sponsorship money with. In previous years we’ve highlighted Shelter and the local hospital as worthy causes, but if you’d like to nominate someone new, please let come find one of the Board members or email your suggestion to charlie@sloughtownfc.net. Those brave souls who want to walk the 30+ miles this season are urged to contact Alan Harding as soon as possible so we can arrange accommodation for the Friday night.
In other news, the Trust Board would like to announce the return of the Player of the Month Awards. Each month, starting on 11th October’s home match against Uxbridge, the Trust will present fans with a voting form for their chosen man of the month. The votes will be tallied and a prize presented to the player at the next home match. Please make sure to look out for Marcus and Charlie Kirby on matchdays for the voting slips.
Finally, Marcus and I wanted to say thank you to the Trust for the kind gift they presented us with on our wedding day. We were very touched by the gift.
Until next time, come on you Rebels!
