Slough Town silenced the challenge from over the river at Maidenhead when they crushed the United by three goals to at Slough Stadium on Monday night. A full strength Slough faced Maidenhead de supposedly two short of their full side and gave them a football lesson that could well have resulted in six goals not just the three on the scoreline. In an opening burst Slough gained three corners scored one goal and generally pushed the Magpies well back into their own half. Maidenhead, without ace striker Charleston, never got going up front and never looked really dangerous.

Slough opened brightly, racing through the Maidenhead defence. and after three minutes they went in front. Amos took the ball down the right and passed across the field to Cruse Randing a good 25 yards out who turned and hammered the ball over, a static Spiele into the top of the net. Slough continued the pressure gaining three corners in 90 seconds as Maidenhead reeled under the pressure.

In the 13th minute Hill burst through but was thwarted when Spittle made a courageous diving save at his feet. One minute later a shot from Reid crashed against the crossbar and from the rebound Turl hammered the ball in for Goode to clear off the line for a corner.

From the kick, Day headed past Spittle but the ball struck the inside of the upright and bounced along the goal-line into the arms of the surprised "keeper. In the 20th minute a cross was headed on by Hill for Ritchie to glance goalwards but the outstretched fingers of Spittle turned it over for another corner.

Slough were very much on top at this stage but the ball just would not bounce for them but another goal just had to come and in the 34th minute Slough went two up Amos took a throw in on the left, short to Roger Day who hooked it over the Maidenhead defence for Ritchie to hammer it into the net.

Three minutes later a Ritchie header was cleared off the goal line by Montague and as the first half came to an end Slough gained three corners in succession.

In the 50th minute Reid made a good run on the right, pushed the ball inside to Cruse and the resulting book shot was just wide In the 56th minute came the final goal, Cruse weaved his way past four white-shirted defenders and the ball ran out to Amos on the right wing. An accurate cross found the head of Ray Hill and the ball flashed past Spittle to make the score three nil.

Three minutes later with tempers be coming a bit frayed, Ritchie raced in and clashed with Spittle. Olse and Ritchie then exchanged shoves and half blows, and Cruse rushed in to separate the opponents only to find his name going into referee Marcham's book.

After this Maidenhead hoisted the white flag and the game slowly wound down, Slough content with their lead and Maidenhead unable to do anything about it.
