Premier Midweek FL
Slough Town reached yet another final on Tuesday evening when they knocked Leytonstone out of the Premier Mid-Week Cup final in East London. Laurie Churchill, the Slough coach, turned out owing to the team being hit by injuries and he scored the only goal of the match. Churchill is a professional but pros are allowed in this competition.
The final will be against the winners of the Hayes and Walton semi-final on a date to be fixed but it will probably be on Monday, May 22, at a venue yet to be decided.
Slough were without Ray Hill and Tony Amos but Leytonstone were also short of several of their regular players. Churchill played up front with Jamieson.
Slough had the best of the first half and should have got more than one goal for the home defence could not cope with the midfield wanderings of Day, Reardon and O'Sullivan which led to sudden breaks by the strikers.
It was close on half-time when Turl pushed the ball to Reardon who gave it to Churchill who rammed it home. A well worked-for goal thoroughly deserved.
Slough dominated the second half but could not score any more goals although they had a crop of near misses. Wolstenholme had little to do in the Town goal, Leytonstone's finishing being poor in the extreme.
