This Monday evenings game at the Stadium brought Slough three more points in their steady march towards Premier Division Isthmian League football next season but the poor standard of the officials in charge brought the football down to the level of comedy. Town were by far the better side and the winning goal was scored by Anthony in the 73rd minute. The attendance was the very satisfactory one of 800 plus.

The first half ran on the usual lines of a senior football match without any startling incidents but after the interval the fun began. Anthony was chopped down in the penalty area, an event completely ignored by referee Mardle of Crawley, and when Trevor Williams drew the officials attention to Anthony's plight he was promptly booked. Seven minutes later Anthony fell over his own feet in the box.

Slough were awarded a “gift” penalty which Turl missed. Minutes later an ugly clash led to Hampton defender Bundy being carried off the field on a stretcher. By this time tempers had become frayed but when Crosby was sandwiched in most blatant fashion the referee rewarded Hampton with a free kick.

To add to the excitement the Hampton substitute was rushing round colliding with every Slough player in sight and his antics finished up with him lying on the ground at the linesman’s feet but no one seemed to know or care how he got there.

The 800 plus spectators were treated to a first half of almost complete Slough pressure with chance after chance being set up but not converted. Brown returned to the side in the absence of the suspended Beyer, and Turl reverted to his more usual defensive role. The visitors first chance came in the 18th minute when Cannon passed back short of Spittle and Bales raced in but shot wide.

After the break Slough became more direct and Anthony had a fine shot well saved by Page. Following the first penalty appeal Williams became the seventh Slough player to be booked in the Isthmian League, then came the Anthony fall and the Turl penalty miss. Six minutes after the hour Brown fired in a great effort but the ball struck the underside of the bar and came out and was cleared.
