Slough produced the right answer to their critics, especially those who bemoaned the departure of Micky Chatterton, when without Geoff Anthony, they thrashed Hitchin by 6-1. Kemp, knocked in a hat-trick, and Wilks, Beyer and Brown scored one each.

Slough thoroughly deserved their second £40 bonus in two weeks as they took the visitors apart in the second half. The attendance was again in the region of 650.

After an even first 15 minutes Slough took control and the first goal came in the 18th minute when Wilks, O'Sullivan and Brown served up a delightful piece of combination which ended with Wilks getting the ball past the Hitchin keeper.

Six minutes later Wilks raced through and crossed the ball for Kemp to slam home number two. The game slackened off after this but Hitchin never looked dangerous. Half time was reached without further addition to the score.

The start of the second half saw Hitchin stringing some passes together and forcing Slough on to defence. In the 54th minute Hitchin scored when Giggle, the former Slough player, crossed the ball and Watson beat Spittle.

Slough quickly regained their know how and a corner led to Beyer finally steering the ball past goalkeeper Parkin. This goal took all the sting out of the visitors and Slough cruised to an easy victory.

Brown, was booked following an incident with Grant, but it was a pity the referee did not see the whole of the trouble between these two players as Grant should have been punished as well. This infuriated the Slough supporters so much they barracked Grant every time he touched the ball.

Slough quickly got their fourth goal through Kemp following good work by Williams and Beyer. Kemp completed his hat-trick 12 minutes from the end. This was Kemp's 18th goal of the season.

Five minutes from time a Hitchin defender passed back but failed to see Brown lurking near the penalty spot and he gratefully received the ball and smashed it past the helpless Parkin.

A very good win for Slough with everyone doing his bit.
