Slough Town opened their pre-season campaign with a 2-2 draw against Isthmian Premier Division side Chatham Town at the Bauvill Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels made an impressive start in the Kent sunshine and were rewarded after just six minutes. Godlove Oppong - one of eight summer signings to feature - showed great strength and composure to turn away from his marker before slotting a low finish beyond the Chatham goalkeeper to score Slough’s first goal of pre-season.

After a positive opening spell, the hosts responded midway through the first half. Jimmy Wild capitalised on loose play at the back to level the scores before Elliot Wenham gave Chatham the lead shortly before the break, finishing after Slough were unable to clear their lines.

With Alan Julian changing all 11 players at half-time, the second period provided valuable minutes for a youthful mixed side. While chances were limited for much of the half, the Rebels found their equaliser 15 minutes from time when Luke Holness spun his defender on the edge of the area before drilling an excellent finish into the bottom-right corner to ensure the opening pre-season fixture ended all square.

A total of 22 players featured as Julian’s side took another important step in their preparations for the new campaign.

Next up for the Rebels is the A23 Cup on Friday evening, featuring Slough Town, Hayes & Yeading United and Marlow with three 45 minute matches. The action gets underway at 7.15pm with Slough Town v Marlow.
