Slough’s best evening crowd of the season saw them maintain their unbeaten Floodlight League record and move within one point of the section title with this draw with Wycombe on Monday night. The title should have been Slough's but two defensive errors let Wycombe in for two soft goals on a night when they looked as though they were trying to get over their exit from the Amateur Cup against Hendon.

The game produced much exciting football with neither side really getting complete control, Slough fielding the side that beat Harwich whilst Wycombe had six of the beaten cup side on display.

The game was only five minutes old when Slough took the lead, Peter Cruse under the watchful eye of Luton manager Alec Stock volleyed home an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.

In the 35th a header from Hollifield beat the Slough defence but wedged between Hyde's legs and seven minutes later Amos laid on a good pass for O'Sullivan but the resulting shot was well saved by Ede.

In the 49th Wycombe were back on terms. Hollifield crossed to Horseman who lobbed the ball into the Slough goalmouth where Hyde had ventured too far off his line and the ball dropped into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

After this Jamieson, who was having his best game yet for Slough began to worry the visitors defence with some good strong runs and in the 32nd after showing fine control in beating the defence his shot went just wide.

Three minutes later he made another run into the Wycombe area and with defenders panicking he was bundled off the ball and Mr Homewood had no hesitation in awarding a penalty which O'Sullivan converted to make it 2-1.

With Slough looking set for a win the equaliser came out of the blue in the 64th a long ball into the Slough area and with D'Arcy and Hyde hesitating Searle raced in to push home Wycombe's second goal.

After a period of pressure from both sides Slough almost snatched the winner in the 89th when Mead headed goalwards but again Ede pulled off a fine save.
