Slough expected a hard game at Dagenham on Saturday and they were not disappointed but they could well have saved a point instead of going down by the odd goal in three. Both teams were in urgent need of the points in their struggle for promotion and the result makes it look long odds on Daggers now taking the championship as well as going up at the first attempt. Turl, scored Slough’s goal five minutes from the end. Kemp and Cannon of Slough were booked.
Slough had their Welsh internationals, Williams and Anthony, on duty and Kemp was also back in the side while Dagenham were at full strength. With so much depending on the game it was not surprising there was plenty of needle in the exchanges.
The first half was fairly even with both teams launching attacks in turn and Spittle brought off some smart saves while at the other end Kemp and Anthony went very close. Twice Slough had golden opportunities to go ahead but Anthony and Brown both missed when goals looked certain.
It was right on half tame when Dagenham broke the ice, Holder put across a splendid corner ball and Fox collected and drove it goalwards but Beyer managed to kick off the line only tor Fox to secure and slam it through a crowd of players past Spittle.
Dagenham mounted a series of attacks in the early part of the second half and in the 72nd minute a strong move on the right saw the ball skid through the Slough defence to Green who unmarked had no difficulty in beating Spittle. This goal really settled the issue but Slough never gave up and five minutes from time they were rewarded when Anthony made ground and then crossed the ball to Turl who turned it into the net with a diving header. A very good goal.
There were a number of niggling fouls and Kemp was booked for fouling Moore the Daggers captain while in the closing minutes Cannon did a blatant piece of shirt pulling, bringing Holder to a halt as he was going through and his name joined Kemp's in the referees little black book.
