Slough Town returned to winning ways under the lights at Arbour Park on Tuesday evening with a thrilling 3-2 victory against Chippenham Town, in which all three strikers found the net for the first time this season.

Jordan Greenidge, Ruben Bartlett-Antwi and Wiktor Makowski were the men on target in a topsy-turvy contest, finally breaking the deadlock in front of goal for the Rebels’ attacking line after a run of matches without a striker scoring.

Scott Davies made five changes to the side which rescued a dramatic late draw against Enfield Town on Saturday. In came Peter Ojemen, Greenidge, Brian Nelson, Jared Myers and Bartlett-Antwi, with Tyrese Dyce also named on the bench for the first time.

The game started at a frantic pace. Within the opening four minutes, Wiktor Makowski struck the crossbar with a powerful effort that bounced down onto the goal line before being cleared to safety. Moments later, the home crowd were celebrating. Desbois launched a long ball forward, Makowski nodded on intelligently and Greenidge, reacting sharply, stabbed the ball home from close range to register his first goal in Slough colours.

Chippenham responded quickly, and parity was restored just five minutes later. A cross from a corner kick caused confusion in the Slough box and eventually fell to Jac Poffley, who poked past Desbois to make it 1-1.

The Bluebirds grew in confidence after their equaliser, with Bartlett-Antwi testing Will Henry on two occasions as Slough looked to hit back. But it was the visitors who struck next. A slick passing move saw Ezio Touray play in Tom Owen-Evans, who finished emphatically to put Chippenham 2-1 ahead after 36 minutes.

Slough looked rattled and struggled to find rhythm, but almost drew level instantly when Greenidge swivelled in the box and forced Henry into a smart save. As the interval approached, the Rebels mounted another attack. Once again, Desbois’ distribution caused problems, with Greenidge winning the flick-on and Makowski cushioning a header down. This time Bartlett-Antwi made no mistake, taking a touch before drilling a low left-footed strike into the net to level the contest at 2-2 in first-half stoppage time.

The equaliser lifted spirits around Arbour Park, and the second half began with both sides pressing hard for the advantage. Scott Davies introduced Tyrique Clarke early in the half, and the Rebels looked sharper in midfield. Davies himself almost put Slough ahead with a fierce strike from a rehearsed corner routine that flew just over the bar.

Chippenham continued to pose a threat, particularly through Owen-Evans and Touray, but resolute defending from Ojemen and Oshilaja ensured Desbois was not overworked. At the other end, Bartlett-Antwi and Myers linked well to stretch the visitors’ back line, forcing Henry into further saves.

The decisive moment came in the 76th minute. Substitute Josh Adepoju slid a clever pass into Makowski, who danced past defenders on the edge of the box with quick footwork before unleashing a precise low drive across goal which Henry could not keep out. It was a moment of individual brilliance from the Polish striker, and his first competitive goal for the club.

With the Rebels now 3-2 up, the closing stages were tense and chaotic. Chippenham threw men forward, while Slough looked to seal the game on the counter.

The visitors came desperately close to snatching an equaliser in the eleventh minute of stoppage time. Quevin Castro unleashed a stunning 30-yard free kick that seemed destined for the top corner, only for Desbois to produce an outstanding fingertip save to preserve the points.

When the final whistle blew, there was huge relief around the ground. The win not only extended Slough’s unbeaten run to four games, but also provided the breakthrough that Davies and his players had been waiting for: all three frontmen on the scoresheet.

The result lifts Slough into mid-table after seven matches, with nine points collected. With fixtures coming thick and fast, the Rebels will now look to carry this momentum into the trip to Torquay at the weekend as they prepare for another tough test.
