B&B Senior Cup
Slough Town stormed into the quarter-finals of the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup with a dominant 8-0 victory over Beaconsfield Town at Holloways Park — their biggest win in recent memory and a much-needed confidence boost after a difficult league spell.
Scott Davies’ side made eight changes from the weekend’s defeat at Horsham, with only Adam Desbois, Peter Ojemen and Dan Roth retaining their places. It was a night that showcased the depth and hunger of the squad, with several players staking a strong claim for further involvement ahead of Saturday’s Isuzu FA Trophy clash with Gloucester City.
The Rebels took control from the opening minutes, moving the ball quickly and stretching the Beaconsfield back line through Harvey Walker and Jared Myers on the wings. After early pressure and a blocked free-kick from Scott Davies, Slough took the lead on 11 minutes when Walker’s low cross from the right was turned in by young forward Nnaemeka Anyanwu inside the six yard box — his first senior goal for the club.
Barely ten minutes later, Slough doubled their advantage. Anyanwu, this time the provider, found space on the left to send a teasing cross through the six-yard box, and Wiktor Makowski was on hand to apply the simplest of finishes. The visiting Rebels were relentless, their passing crisp and confident, and it was no surprise when Walker made it three shortly afterwards, firing a low drive into the corner from 20 yards.
The fourth goal came just moments later when Makowski was tripped by Beaconsfield goalkeeper Tommy Dymott as he broke through on goal. The striker picked himself up to confidently send the resulting penalty into the bottom-left corner for his second of the night.
Slough’s dominance continued as they attacked from all angles. Davies was instrumental in midfield, dictating play and splitting the Beaconsfield defence with precision passing. On 36 minutes, his through ball found Dan Roth making a run from deep, and the defender showed superb composure to finish calmly for Slough’s fifth.
The first half closed with Desbois producing his only meaningful save, pushing away a strong effort from Tom Dickson-Peters. The Rebels went in at the break 5-0 ahead after a dazzling attacking display.
Davies and Roth were withdrawn at half-time with Saturday’s fixture in mind, but their replacements — Aaron White and Luke Holness — ensured the tempo did not drop. Slough continued to dominate territory, with Myers twice denied early in the second period.
Tyrique Clarke and Jaiden Drakes-Thomas entered on the hour mark, and within minutes Clarke had joined the scoresheet. Myers’ persistence down the right was rewarded as he teed up Clarke just inside the box, and the midfielder swept a precise finish into the bottom corner for 6-0.
The seventh goal arrived in the 75th minute, and it was a particularly special moment for new signing Luke Holness. The forward, making just his second appearance, latched onto a clever pass through the middle and produced a confident, composed finish high into the top corner — his first goal in Slough colours.
Still, the Rebels weren’t done. Drakes-Thomas, introduced midway through the half, added the eighth and arguably the best of the night. Receiving the ball outside the penalty area, he bent an unstoppable curling strike from 25 yards beyond the despairing reach of substitute goalkeeper Josh Welland.
There could easily have been more — Holness forced a fine save before Jordan Greenidge was denied from close range — but Slough settled for eight as they comfortably saw out the closing stages.
Slough showed the attacking verve and discipline that had been missing in recent league outings. The clean sheet was equally valuable, with Desbois and his defence standing firm when called upon, particularly late on when Beaconsfield pushed for a consolation.
Scot Davies will hope this emphatic display can reignite momentum ahead of the club’s next test — a home tie against Gloucester City in the Isuzu FA Trophy, where Slough will aim to transfer their cup form into another strong performance.
The Rebels will discover their Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup quarter-final opponents in Thursday’s draw. Ruthless, confident, and clinical from start to finish — Slough’s biggest victory of the season sends them forward with renewed belief.
