Slough Town were beaten 2-0 at Farnborough as the hosts struck either side of half-time to secure an important victory in their fight against relegation.
The Rebels, still heavily impacted by injuries, named a youthful bench featuring four Elite Development Squad players and were again forced to rely on a stretched squad.
Despite those challenges, Slough made a bright start and created the better of the early opportunities. Harvey Walker was at the heart of much of the early attacking play, first forcing a save from Joe Duncan inside three minutes before sending a series of dangerous low deliveries across the six-yard box that narrowly evaded a finishing touch. Walker was again involved on nine minutes as his low effort from outside the box forced Duncan in a good save at full stretch.
Ruben Shakpoke also threatened in the opening stages, capitalising on a defensive error to drive into the area, while Luke Holness linked play well, setting up Jaiden Drakes-Thomas for an effort that drifted wide.
At the other end, Alfie Marriott was called into action early to deny Mason Bloomfield, producing a composed stop in a lively and open opening to the contest.
Slough continued to find space in attacking areas, with Walker, Shakpoke and Drakes-Thomas combining well, but Farnborough gradually began to grow into the game.
The breakthrough came on 36 minutes and in spectacular fashion. Hakeem Sandah found space inside the box and curled an excellent effort into the top corner, leaving Marriott with no chance.
The Rebels responded well and came within inches of an equaliser shortly before the break. After Holness was brought down on the edge of the area, Johnny Goddard stepped up to take the free-kick and struck the crossbar with a superb effort.
Slough went into the interval trailing by a single goal but with encouragement from a positive first-half display.
However, the second half proved more difficult for the visitors. Farnborough started strongly and limited Slough’s attacking threat, with the Rebels struggling to replicate their earlier fluency.
Davies turned to his bench early in the second period, introducing Milan Trotman and Balu Makumbi, before further changes saw Brian Nelson and Pedro Sami enter the action as Slough looked for a way back into the contest.
But moments after the second double substitution, Farnborough doubled their advantage. A long pass from Duncan found Sandah, who delivered a deep cross to the back post where Bloomfield was on hand to head home from close range.
That goal shifted the momentum firmly in favour of the hosts, who continued to push forward in search of a third.
Farnborough were handed a chance to extend their lead further when Sandah was brought down inside the area, but Marriott produced an excellent save from the resulting penalty to keep Slough in the game.
Despite that moment, clear-cut chances were limited for the Rebels in the second half, with the hosts largely controlling proceedings as the game moved into its closing stages.
Frustration began to show late on as tensions boiled over following a challenge from Sami, resulting in a scuffle between the two sides. Reiss Greenidge was subsequently sent off after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession.
Farnborough continued to threaten, even striking the post during a late scramble, but the scoreline remained unchanged as they saw out the victory.
For Slough, it was a tale of two halves. A promising opening 45 minutes yielded chances that went untaken, while the second half saw the effects of a depleted squad take their toll as the hosts took control.
Attention now turns to Tuesday evening, as the Rebels return to Arbour Park for a Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup semi-final clash with Wycombe Wanderers.
