Slough Town were beaten 5-1 by promotion-chasing Torquay United at Arbour Park, as a devastating first-half display from the visitors left the Rebels with too much to do.

Facing one of the division’s form sides and still heavily depleted by injuries, Slough were ultimately undone by a clinical Torquay outfit who struck four times inside the opening 24 minutes to take full control of the contest.

Backed by a travelling support of more than 600, the visitors started with intent and nearly took the lead inside two minutes when Dylan Morgan rattled the crossbar with a fierce effort.

Slough responded immediately, with Jaiden Celestine-Charles forcing a smart low save from Seb Stacey following a well-struck volley, but it would prove to be a brief moment of promise before Torquay seized control.

The breakthrough arrived on seven minutes. Morgan, who had already gone close, found space once more and finished clinically to give the Gulls the lead.

Torquay doubled their advantage just minutes later. A well-worked move saw Dan Hayfield return the ball into the path of Jordan Young, who struck decisively to make it 2-0.

The visitors were relentless, and a third followed soon after from a corner. Amid a crowded penalty area, Deon Moore reacted quickest to bundle the ball home from close range.

Before Slough could recover, Moore struck again to make it four, capitalising on a defence struggling to cope with Torquay’s intensity and movement.

The early blitz left the Rebels shell-shocked, and while the tempo of the game settled somewhat after the frenetic opening, the damage had already been done.

Slough began to see more of the ball as the half progressed, but clear chances remained limited. Harvey Walker fired over from distance, while a dangerous situation late in the half almost gifted Torquay a fifth, only for Scott Davies to produce a crucial last-ditch clearance after a misplaced back pass.

Torquay continued to threaten, striking the crossbar for a second time before the interval, underlining their dominance as they went into the break with a commanding four-goal lead.

After the restart, Slough showed improved organisation and determination, limiting the visitors to fewer clear-cut opportunities. Jordan Young came closest to extending the lead when he broke through on goal, but his effort drifted wide.

The Rebels looked to restore some pride and gradually worked their way into more advanced positions. Luke Holness fired over following a neat passing move, while Tyrese Dyce saw a header comfortably saved by Stacey.

Their efforts were rewarded on 81 minutes with a moment of quality. Dyce provided the assist, and Jaiden Celestine-Charles curled a superb effort into the corner from the edge of the box to pull a goal back.

It was a deserved reward for the forward, who had worked tirelessly throughout and provided a bright spark in an otherwise difficult afternoon.

Slough made late changes, introducing Noah Hay and Kian Berry, but Torquay had the final say deep into stoppage time. Substitute Charlie Osborne carried the ball forward before delivering a cross that was converted by Reece Evans to make it 5-1.

The scoreline reflected Torquay’s ruthless attacking display, particularly in the opening stages, where their pace, movement and finishing proved decisive.

For Slough, it was another challenging afternoon in a difficult run, with injuries continuing to limit options and force reliance on a stretched squad. Despite the result, there were positives in the second-half response and a first goal for Millwall loanee Celestine-Charles.

With the season entering its final stages, the Rebels will look to regroup and finish strongly, while Torquay’s victory keeps them firmly in the hunt at the top of the table.
